Christmas Time For Your Furnace and Your Home

Preparing for another hectic holiday season can feel a little overwhelming as you work to keep your home clean and your children entertained at the same time. It can even feel like you are burning the candle at both end at time. So, to lighten up the load, we at Beavercreek Heating and Cooling compiled some recommendations to help you keep your home clean while you prepare for the holidays, and to keep your kids entertained at the same time.

Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree

Beginning in as early as October, and going to as the following year until February, Christmas trees are a major mainstay throughout the holiday season. Below are some crucial thoughts if you are a big enthusiast of the Christmas spirit, and Christmas tree.

  1. Christmas trees, particularly real live ones, leave messes. And we’re not only speaking about the countless pine needles on the carpet. When utilizing a real tree in your home, experts say you are more prone to grow mold spots. This is worst where the tree gets installed for display. The longer the tree is there, the more the mold. So, if you intend to have the Christmas tree up for more than a month, it’s best to get a synthetic one. Interesting Fact: People can come up with an illness called “Christmas Tree Syndrome.” Most people have no idea they have it! “Christmas Tree Syndrome” causes watery eyes, an irritable nose, and even chest pains that feel like you have a severe cold. If you or anyone in your family develops these symptoms each year when that tree goes up, it’s best to go with a synthetic.

The downsides of having a real Christmas tree are many. However, if your heart is set on one, follow some suggestions to avert them. One good idea is to install a humidifier, if you haven’t already, to filter your air more. This will go a great way in counteracting dryness as humidifiers also help control the amount of mold within and on top of your walls in the weeks leading to Christmas. They can eliminate the pollen in your home’s air and improve your tree’s health.

More On The Tree, and Your Decorations

Decorating the inside and around the outside of your house is another long-standing holiday mainstay around the world. When decorating your house for Christmas and New Year, there are some ways to make things go smoothly now and for years to come.

  1. Iconic of the season as a whole, your family Christmas tree is plausibly the most important decoration you will place inside your place all year long. If you choose to go with an authentic tree grown from the earth (and possibly even picked by your family as a custom), you’d be smart to practice a couple of measures before taking it indoors from the cold. First off, make sure to spray it down with some water. A garden hose will do if it’s not frozen. Secondly, give it a strong steady shaking off. Doing this will go along way in circumventing any messes by shaking free anything that might still be on the tree, or about to fall off. Once that’s done, then take it inside.
  2. Now we all know Christmas comes and goes — sometimes too fast. Sooner or later, the time will come to take down all your decorations and tree and store them away. Just remember, there is a wrong and right way of doing this. Once you’ve cleaned everything off and you are packaging all this up for storage, ensure you seal up your boxes airtight. If moisture gets trapped in there, it can ruin your decorations, or make them age untimely.
  3. Finally, some decorations will need to be wiped off, dusted, cleaned, and, sadly, some will require to be thrown away. Keeping them clean is important regarding your ductwork. If your ducts do end up getting dirty, it can alter the way your unit will run. If you suspect this is the case already, call one of our trusted HVAC pros and make an appointment. We can keep your vents clean during the holidays and the rest of the year.

Fun Crafts to Keep the Kids busy

Trying to think of a fun project for your kids this holiday season? Is bad weather hindering them inside? Are schools out for the holidays? They have nothing to do?

No problem!

Make Paper Snowflakes!

  1. Fashion a sheet of paper into a square, or find a square-shaped one.
  2. Once you find the right piece, fold the sheet from corner to corner to form a nice triangle.
  3. Now that it’s folded correctly cut out tiny slots in the sides of the triangle along the folds.
  4. Once your cuts are ideal, you’re finished. Unfold the paper to see your unique creation!

Making a Popsicle Christmas Tree Ornament!

  1. Gather up 10 or more individual popsicle sticks. Make sure they’re clean. You’ll also need hot glue, paint, and string.
  2. Set aside one popsicle stick. You need not cut this one. However, take the remaining sticks and cut a little off each one. Your cut should get longer after each stick until the last one, which should be the shortest.
  3. Paint the longest one and brown. Then, paint all the shorter ones green.
  4. Next, glue down each green stick onto the brown stick, starting with the next longest one and moving your way down until the shortest stick is on top.
  5. Once the glue has dried, from that, glue a loop on the back of the whole thing using. Once that has dried, it is ready to hang on the Christmas tree — your kids’ own creation!
