Discovering Xenia, Ohio
With the motto “vivid history, vibrant future,” the city is also considered the “bicycle capital of the midwest.” It was first founded in 1803, the same year Ohio was brought into the union and officially became a state. Throughout its history, Xenia has had more than its share of severe storms, including a devastating 1974 tornado (an F5) that killed 34 people, injured 1,150 others and devastated the town, destroying half the buildings there. Overall, it left 10,000 people temporarily homeless. The story made international headlines. The local newspaper, the Xenia Gazette, ended up winning a Pulitzer Prize award for their comprehensive and in depth coverage in the spot news reporting category the following year. For generations, many notable people have called Xenia home. This includes famous athletes, comedians, actors, musicians, politicians, artists, writers and activists. Xenia was also the birthplace of the famous historic Shawnee War Chief Tecumseh, who united the natives in efforts to prevent western civilization from taking their land and pushing the natives out. Xenia is the home of the Greene County Parks & Trails, which hosts several parks and recreation areas around the county with hiking trails, wildlife sanctuary, and activites for all ages.HVAC Financing
